BDO in Ukraine Follows the Urban Greening Tradition: New Tree Plantings in Kyiv and Dnipro
The team of BDO in Ukraine is dedicated to its annual tradition of greening Ukrainian cities by participating in ecological tree-planting initiatives.
As in previous years, the event was held simultaneously in two locations, Hloba Park in Dnipro and near Lake Pozniaky in Kyiv. The objective of the initiative is to make our cities more comfortable, greener and cleaner, while also fostering a sense of unity among colleagues around a shared value — environmental responsibility.
The initiative was supported by the public organisation “Million Trees,” which has been partnering with the company for several years in joint environmental campaigns. Its representative, Chairman Roman Danylenko, noted that the collaboration with BDO has become a well-established tradition — this year marks the fourth time the event has been held simultaneously in Kyiv and Dnipro. The recently planted willows help to harmoniously enhance the lakeside zone near Pozniaky, improving its ecosystem. Mr. Danylenko emphasised:
“Planting trees is the best thing we can do for nature. Trees produce oxygen, retain moisture from deeper soil layers and create favourable microclimates in urban environments.”

In Dnipro, company employees planted 15 pine trees and 15 rowan trees, having selected species that are well adapted to both the urban environment and the park in particular, which helps to improve the quality of the air. The team ensured the entire planting cycle — from delivering the trees (30 items) and peat (10 bags) to applying rooting agents for better plant adaptation.

In the capital, employees planted three types of willow: Matsudana, common willow and Melanostachys. These are ideal for reinforcing the shorelines of water bodies. A total of 25 trees were delivered, and the black soil was prepared for rooting. Thanks to these joint efforts, the area near the lake will become even greener and more inviting for the district residents to relax during springtime.
“It’s important for us not only to support our company’s sustainable development through strategies and reporting but also to lead by example. Greening is about taking responsibility for the city in which we live and work. When colleagues come together and plant trees with their own hands — it’s not just an environmental action, it’s also a symbol of our corporate unity,” — said Anastasiia Skok, Head of the ESG Department.
Tree planting is part of our contribution to the global network’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Greening urban areas is a practical step that helps to reduce the concentration of CO₂ in the atmosphere and mitigate the effects of climate change. Colleagues who participated in the event added:
“Seeing colleagues from different departments working together on a good cause makes you realise that BDO is a team, both at work and in taking action to positively impact the environment.”
Environmental responsibility is one of the values that unites the BDO network worldwide, including colleagues at BDO in Ukraine. We believe that sustainable development begins with specific steps. Change starts with action, and we are proud to be part of it.
