BDO in Ukraine at the CIVITAS Summer Course 2025: New Competences for Sustainable Mobility

Sustainable mobility is not just about transport, but about quality of life in the city. It has been demonstrated to assist in the reduction of pollution, whilst simultaneously enhancing accessibility and making urban spaces more people friendly.

These subjects were the focus of the CIVITAS Summer Course 2025, which brought together urban mobility experts from across Europe. The objective of the event was to facilitate the exchange of experience, the identification of new solutions to local mobility issues, the development of knowledge and skills, and the enhancement of participants’ personal competencies.

The event was organised for specialists in the field of urban mobility, including project managers, consultants, researchers, representatives of municipalities, private companies and non-governmental organisations.

One of the programme’s participants was Tetyana Demchenko, a project manager at BDO in Ukraine, who subsequently shared her knowledge and practical experience. As the leader of the Municipalities and Smart Cities industry group, Tetyana is convinced that the new skills acquired during the course will form the basis for the implementation of projects aimed at improving mobility in Ukrainian municipalities.

Over a period of 3.5 days, the participants worked on real mobility challenges in Trnava, Slovakia, where the event took place. They used an action learning approach, which combines expert lectures, interactive tasks and group work with case studies. This year, particular emphasis was placed on developing scenario-building skills — a tool that facilitates the modelling of potential options for urban mobility development. The course concluded with a presentation of the solutions that participants developed for specific city problems and the awarding of certificates. This training format not only deepened understanding of local challenges but also provided a platform for the exchange of experience between experts from different European countries.

“I am convinced that the knowledge and skills I have gained during the course will help me develop and implement projects for Ukrainian municipalities aimed at improving urban mobility. This is particularly important in the context of the current challenges facing Ukraine,” said Tetyana.

BDO in Ukraine continues to support initiatives that promote sustainable development of municipalities and cities and systematically works on the professional growth of its specialists. Our participation in international educational events is driven by our conviction that professional development is the cornerstone of implementing sustainable solutions in business and society. The team’s professional knowledge in the field of sustainable development is being deepened, allowing it to integrate modern approaches to sustainability into the company’s projects. This will enable the team to provide high-level advice to clients and develop solutions that meet today’s challenges.

We invite companies that wish to contribute to Ukraine’s sustainable future to join us in our efforts through collaborative practice, partnership, and joint action.
