In the face of Ukraine’s immense recovery challenges, the knowledge of sustainable development principles becomes crucial.
This includes understanding how to implement low-carbon construction, concrete recycling, reuse of building materials and execution of projects that align with European green standards. These subjects constituted the basis of the practical course “Green Reconstruction of Ukraine”, organised by the ReThink platform with support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
One of the course participants was Victoria Sukhanenko, ESG expert at BDO in Ukraine. Upon completing the training, she shared her insights and new approaches that can already be integrated into the company’s operations.

Participants of the course learned to:
- Apply the fundamentals of green reconstruction, circular design, low-carbon construction, material recycling, and scaling up sustainable solutions
- Integrate principles of sustainable development at every stage, from planning to implementation, assess the environmental impact of projects and adapt green technologies to Ukrainian realities
- Recognise the vital role of ESG managers, whose expertise is becoming a key tool for companies aiming to enhance transparency, accountability and competitiveness in the global market.
“This course provided a valuable source of fresh ideas and practical solutions that can be applied in our work today. Green reconstruction knowledge is not only about ecology; it's also about business responsibility, transparency and international competitiveness,” Viktoriia emphasised.

The programme concluded with a formal certificate ceremony, attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine, Alle Dorhout. He congratulated the graduates personally and highlighted the importance of their contribution to rebuilding the country on sustainable principles.
Implementing green reconstruction principles will provide Ukraine with the opportunity to restore the damaged infrastructure and to lay the foundation for a sustainable, safe and comfortable future. This is an approach that will lead to economic efficiency, the preservation of natural resources and an enhanced quality of life for future generations.
