The Ukrainian Consortium has joined the NEBA Alliance

BDO in Ukraine, KNUCA and ISTU will deliver training courses for Ukraine’s reconstruction

In partnership with the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA) and the International Scientific and Technical University name of academician Yuri Bugay (ISTU), BDO in Ukraine won the NEBA Alliance grant competition in the “Partnering with existing NEBA Hubs” category. It was the only Ukrainian application to be supported among more than 70 proposals submitted from 14 countries.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the New European Bauhaus Academy (NEBA) initiative, which is supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and financed by the European Union.

Joining the NEBA Alliance BDO in Ukraine and partners is not just an educational initiative. It is a strategic step towards establishing a new professional community that can effectively implement sustainable development principles within the Ukrainian context. It is grounded in practical knowledge, an interdisciplinary approach and a focus on the real challenges of reconstruction.

“This partnership represents a valuable opportunity to integrate NEB values into Ukraine’s green recovery and to make high-quality, practice-oriented training available to local professionals and municipalities,” said Vira Savchenko, the CEO of BDO in Ukraine.

“We are convinced that green transformation of Ukraine begins with education. KNUCA’s participation in the NEBA Alliance contributes to the development of a new architectural and construction culture, in which sustainability, inclusivity and aesthetics are fundamentals, not trends,” said Oleksii Shkuratov, KNUCA’s First Vice-Rector.

“Our course on climate and the built environment explores how architecture can mitigate the vulnerability of municipalities to climate change. We teach how space can be used for adaptation and provide comfort,” says Vira Balabukh, Climatologist and Course Trainer.

The project will be implemented from July to October 2025 as part of the Horizon Europe programme. The courses will become part of NEBA Academy, a European educational ecosystem that currently brings together partners from 22 countries. We are proud that Ukrainian online courses will be featured on this platform.

What does the project involve?
NEBA financing will enable the Ukrainian consortium to:
  • Develop two online courses to be hosted on the NEBA Academy platform. These courses will be open to all interested participants.
  • Deliver one offline course, scheduled for completion by the end of September 2025. The call for applications will be announced soon.
  • Join the NEBAP Hub to promote green, inclusive, and aesthetic transformation in Ukrainian construction.

According to the cooperation terms, the following online courses are to be developed and published on the NEBA platform:
  • Environmental Materials and Energy Efficiency in Municipal Reconstruction
  • Green Construction as a Foundation for Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

The offline course, for which applications will be announced shortly, will focus on: Climate, Society, and the Built Environment.

The courses developed by the Ukrainian consortium under the NEBA project are intended for:
  • Municipal representatives — including urban planners, energy managers, and local government officials involved in reconstruction, sustainable development, and climate adaptation.
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) — especially those operating in construction, energy efficiency, production of eco-friendly materials, and innovative technologies.
  • Educational and research institutions — lecturers, researchers, students, and postgraduates interested in integrating sustainability, digitalisation, and inclusive design into architecture and construction.
  • Civil society — activists, NGO representatives, and community leaders engaged in rebuilding, planning, and developing local territories.

It is essential that all courses are conducted in Ukrainian, as this ensures the training is accessible to participants from a wide range of regions in Ukraine. Please monitor our website and social media channels for updates regarding enrolment for the offline course, which will be announced in the near future!

We are pleased to announce that Ukrainian online courses will be presented on the esteemed European platform, NEBA Academy. This is not only recognition of our approach, but also an opportunity to make knowledge available to a wide range of participants in the process of  rebuilding Ukraine.
